Today i am going to share few tricks which can help cool your Room Temperature .

Lets Get Started!!

First Thing Let us Understand what Thermodynamics has to say about Heat Transfer.

Heat can be Transferred by 3 different means-

As Image explains

>Conduction is heat transferred from one body to another and when the are in direct contact.

>Radiation is emission of electromagnetic energy .Every material or matter emits or absorbs some EM radiation.This causes loss or gain in heat.

>In Convection Molecules of Gas or liquid in contact with a solid body transmit or absorb heat to or from that body and then move away, allowing other molecules to move into place and repeat the process.

Other Simpler Example

Conduction is Stove ,Conduction Cooker etc.

Convection is Air conditioner ,Hot air balloon etc.

Radiation is sun rays,Microwave etc.

Now lets get back to Buildings.

Lets Understand from where possibly heat is transferred inside our home are

Heat Transferred from Openings,Surfaces , Machines and People

Lets look at the practical solutions which might help you come near to your comfort Ambiance during Summer days.

Windows and Door (Openings)

The most easy way is to have a physical barrier between Sun radiation and Interior of the room is to have a jute blinds for your windows.

How does a jute Blind help?

As we are accessible to mechanical cooler which is Fan inside the room we can use Jute blinds during summer ,by the concept of Evaporative cooling .Hang those blinds on window and spray cold water on blinds and let the breeze be cooler as it comes through a cooler object which are blinds.

They are available on many online markets and vendors.

Secondly you can use a reflective film on the outer side of the window which emits the radiation from the surface which are also available on many online stores and vendors.

Thirdly,Look for the Air leakages from the window using a piece of paper and see if it passes through.Get that gap filled .

Fourth one is,Try having cross ventilation in the Room .Mostly in cities due to shortage of space its very rare to find a cross ventilated Room. In case if you Do not have a cross ventilated Room you can try having a Vent above the Door as shown in the Image.

This will along with cross ventilation ,help warm Air to escape from the Room.

Fifth one is during construction phase or if you are planning to renovate then go for a window which has a higher R value and sound poof as an option.Higher R value is the ability to resist conductive heat transfer.

Surfaces

Surfaces include Flooring,Roof top,wall surfaces on the top list and many more.

Firstly, Flooring mostly go for lighter shades as Darker shades absorb heat.Also Opt for a flooring material which reflects heat during warmer days.

The reason that marble feels cold is because it Conduts heat differently than other surfaces. Marble is a very dense ,hard stone, and this makes it easier for heat to transfer from a warmer object .

Secondly,Surfaces on the exterior wall needs to be of lighter shade ,its the same concept mentioned earlier .Usage of Reflective materials is recommended .

Lastly,There are many reflective materials mostly in white shade for flat roof available in market.i will cover this maybe later . As we are majorly focusing on Interior of the Room.

Machines

A Personal Tip on Machines

Machines emit heat too.Try keeping them in a Room well ventilated dedicated for machines like computer,Television apart from habitable /Comfort rooms .

Keep them in a Room which is Cross ventilated or has a exhaust fan to vent out warm air.
